Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka (PUE) is the organization or examination authority for implementing the higher secondary education in Karnataka. The university functions under Department of Primary & Secondary Education. There are many colleges working under this. A total of 1202 Government Pre-University colleges, 165 bifurcated Pre-University colleges, 1936 Unaided Pre-University colleges, 637 Aided Pre-University colleges and 13 Corporation Pre-University colleges under this. Over 10 lakh students enrol for the 2^nd PUC (Pre-University Course) after the 10^th class every year.
